I should have checked this before accepting the job but anyway I just discovered that there is English Premier League Soccer on Australian TV. Also Jon Stewart! Now all I need is a TiVo.
UPDATE: Vicki says there is no TiVo yet (see the comments). I'm thinking a new Mac Mini (we're big Apple fans) + MythTV.

Yep, you can find just about any sport on TV here -- just make sure you get cable! Unfortunately TiVo is still a fairly new technology here, some people have it but it's not in widespread use yet.
BTW I'm an avid astronomy fan and I love the perspective from the southern hemisphere! It's such a wonderful opportunity you have to be able to come here and work in that field.
